Finaly in this blog, here are our two shots looking very nice!
These were rendered on time and without the render farm so i think a big success!

(blog post number 13) PERSONAL REFLECTION
Over the last term we have made sure to meticulously plan and adapt our plans to help ease our workflow. we have used such things as GROUP CALENDARS, REFERENCING, DROPBOX, how too start your own RENDER FARM using LAN NETWORK DRIVES as well as creating an ONLINE PRESENCE and posting on SOCIAL MEDIA SITES to help ADVERTISE our film.
I really think this approach is the best bacause working professionally forces you to critically analyse your self. It requires you to manage your time professionally and make sure that you are not leaving people who are depending on you in the learch.
By planning my time out I have made sure to spend time on all of my projects this term, and have managed to hand in a fully finished dissertation as well as working hard on Going Down and Chiarocuro.
I especially liked the advertising stage, making the website was enjoyable and a nice change stepping into a 2D media program as I am more used to the 3D working environment.
Although we analysed the benefits of using the render farm we decided against it as combined we have a lot of CPUs that can easily be put to use on batch renders.
All in all this has taught me a lot and has been an enjoyable and informative project!

(blog post number 12) social media
To AID our ADVERTISING we decided to start a FACEBOOK GROUP and invite everyone we know to join. We have included a link to the website and we will post regular updates to keep people in the loop with the film!
(blog post number 11) POSTER
As I was working mainly on the website I didnt have much input into the poster, but I think they look really good and will be important at the DEGREE SHOW to help promote us!

(blog post number 10) WEBSITE!!!!!
To help ADVERTISE our new film we decided to create a WEBSITE! please visit it now at
www.goingdownfilm.co.uk
Joe Henson layed everything out in photoshop and I coded it all in flash and did little bits of animation and links to other sites. We had to buy the domain name and then set up the FTP SERVER to get it all on line. All in all a good thing I think!

(blog post number 09) GOOGLE CALENDAR
Over this project, one thing that has really helped has been using GOOGLECALENDARto plan my time acordingly for DISSERTATION, GOINGDOWN and CHIAROSCURO projects. I assigned small TASKS for EACH DAY at the beginning of the term, and I have more or less stuck to them so far!
THIS IS MY INDIVIDUAL CALENDAR

(blog post number 08) DROPBOX!!!!!
DROPBOX is amazing. what it does is hosts your files on a cloud server somewhere, then distributes the most up to date files to all machines that are connected to the account. there are obviously some issues with it such as unwanted duplicates and CONFLICTED COPIES appearing, but this is nothing compared with the benefits of having files update on every computer in the group. a downside is BANDWIDTH however.
LAND or LOCAL AREA NETWORK DRIVES can also be used with great benefit if everyone is connected to the same local network. what this means is that you SHARE folder on a host computer, and all other machines specify a LOCAL IP ADDRESS and selection name of the folder and link to it. This works a lot BETTER than DROPBOX as the updating is quicker and DOSNT USE BANDWIDTH. However this can't be used outside of this network.

(blog post number 07) My PIPELINE with REFERENCING
During the last couple of years, I and my GROUP have been using something called REFERENCING. this means that in maya you are not working directly ON an ASSET but WITH an ASSET. this is an important difference as it means the ASSET CAN BE UPDATED as you are using it.this esentially means the modeller can be modelling, while the rigger is rigging, while the animator is animating, while the lighter is lighting. beautiful. BUT what is the use when all the work is on only one computer? in the next post Iwill talk about DROPBOX.

(blog post number 06) My PIPELINE with REFERENCING
I thought it would be a good thing to do to explain our PIPELINE of work. In many respects this is far too simplified as we use something called REFERENCING which means that these arnt static steps, they are all DYNAMIC and easy to UPDATE through the CHAIN of steps. say for example the model needed to be changed, this could be done easily and would update through the rigging stage into the animating and lighting stage ready to be rendered immediately.
in my next post I will explain our set-up with rendering and dropbox

(blog post number 03) My responsibillities for Going Down & Chiaroscuro!
As well as doing both my INDIVIDUAL CONTRACT and GROUP CONTRACT, i thought i would sum, up my roles and responsibilities here to make them easy to understand.
Ok so for my group project Going Down, I will be mainly Rigging the characters (as I also did last term for our spellbound project). I will also be doing some modelling and shading/texturing, and i'm sure i'll probably be doing some rendering at some point!
so to sum up:
-rig both characters in our film
-model 1 environment in our film
-assistance with rendering
For my individual project of course I will have a lot more, well, all the responsibilities! I am going to be filming either myself or an actor on a live plate and comping them in on my cg backgrounds. I will then be comping in 3D effects and other elements and giving it a grade.
so to sum up:
-shooting footage (setting up film set, lights, green screen, conforming footage)
-editing footage to suit narrative
-grading a technical pass for comp
-creation of cg backgrounds and effects
-comping rendered elements
-final grade
-plentiful organisational asset structures!
In my next post I will draw up a realistic action plan for the next couple of months which I will try and stick to, or adapt if necessary!

(blog post number 02) what i want i plan do do for this unit
- first and foremost we need to isolate our TARGET AUDIENCE, which will halp us in our NARRATIVE STORY TELLING as we can direct our attention towards key aspects of FILMIC LANGUAGE
- i will need to identify a file organisational system to manage data storage and work flow between different machines as well as different people, whilst preserving as much as possible the benefits of 'ease of development' across the pipeline. I have already touched on this area before but I will be looking further into DROP BOX and REFFERENCING
- During these projects, there will be a distinct need to look at the options available when RENDERING. these include investing in machines, CPU THREADING, LOCAL MACHINE NETWORKING, and also the RAVENSBOURNE RENDER FARM
- I and my group will need to begin to MARKET or PRODUCT. This may sound like a strange word to use to describe our film, but our work and SHOWREEL are our PRODUCTS and JOBS are the payment. For this we will look at creating a WEBSITE as well as advertising through SOCIAL MEDIA websites.
- I will need to PLAN MY TIME using GOOGLE CALENDER. this will be done BOTH INDIVIDUALY as well as AS A GROUP. time management is important when working on a lot of projects, so this will be a top PRIORITY in this project.
- for work to get accepted in the RAVENSBOURNE DEGREE SHOW the files and content will need to follow stricked QUALITY CONTROL guide lines. I will be researching these to make sure my work is suitable!
By following all of these key points, I will make sure I work in a professional manner throught this project to ease the flow of work!

(blog post number 01) Professional Skills (first post)
Ok so for this first post I'd like to give a brief description about where I am in my project to give a background to how i will plan and accomplish my aims.
I am in the third year, working on 2 films, both of which have more or less just started. the first film is a group project, for which I am working with Ollie, Steph, Nick, Joe and Dave. This project is called Going Down and is about an intern who is working late, only to discover there is a zombie in the building!
The second project I am working on is an individually driven project called "Chiaroscuro" which is a piece on the cusp of being abstract. The brief narrative is that a secret organisation are conducting trials of localized pure "peace" and "hostility" on a human subject. The subject briefly acquires telekinetic abilities, but is crushed by the overwhelming force of the two substances.
In the next post I will begin by drafting out my responsibilities for both projects, so that I can later divide my time between the two, with the added third responsibility of this term being Dissertation.
